Velocity IoT offers multi-network connectivity backed by infrastructure with local breakout for lower latency and compliance. We want to make it easy for our customers to set up, manage, and scale their deployments. That is why we offer Velocity Flex, a fully self-serve platform where our IoT data plans are bought, activated, and managed with no commitments or contracts to get started. SIMs are purchased through Digi-Key in whatever quantity you need, with multi-IMSI SKUs already configured for global or North American deployments. You create an account online, assign a plan, and start connecting devices. No minimum order, no negotiation, and no sales call unless you want one.
Flex is one of two ways to work with us. Velocity Enterprise is the contract-based option for deployments that need custom rate plans, custom SIM profiles, volume ordering, and additional platform capabilities. This article focuses on Flex: how the plans are structured, how data pooling and activity-based billing work, what coverage each plan includes, which SIM SKU to order and where, the steps to set up an account, the support that comes with it, and the options available if you want a more tailored connectivity strategy.
How does Velocity Flex work?
Velocity Flex works in four steps, and you can complete every one of them yourself. You order SIMs from Digi-Key in any quantity, choosing the SKU that matches your form factor and whether the devices will operate globally or across North America. You create an account at velocityiot.net, add each SIM by the ICCID printed on it, and assign it a rate plan and pool group. From there everything runs from the dashboard: activating SIMs, monitoring usage, and changing plans as your deployment changes.
Once your SIMs arrive, there are only three things left to do. Set up your account, add the SIM, and set the APN on your device. That is the entire onboarding, and your account and SIMs can be active within minutes. No integration project, no provisioning request, and no waiting on anyone at our end.
How do Velocity Flex IoT data plans work?
Flex rate plans are organized two ways: by data tier and by coverage region. The combination of the two defines a plan group.
Two data families:
- Flex IoT covers the low-data tiers, 1 MB through 50 MB, for devices that send small amounts of data on a schedule.
- Flex covers the higher tiers, 70 MB through 10 GB, for devices that move more data.
Three coverage regions:
- Global plans: Flex, Flex+, Flex IoT, Flex+ IoT
- USA plans: Flex USA, Flex USA IoT
- North America plans: Flex NA, Flex NA IoT
Each plan carries a monthly access fee per SIM, charged only for SIMs that are active during the billing month. The prices below are indicative single-unit list prices, quantity one, with no commitment attached:

How does data pooling work?
Every SIM in a plan group draws from one shared pool rather than from its own individual allowance. The data included with each SIM goes into that pool, so a device that uses less leaves the remainder for a device that uses more.
Pooling happens within a plan group, never across groups. Different tiers in the same group do pool, so a Flex IoT 1 MB plan and a Flex IoT 10 MB plan share a single 11 MB pool. A Flex IoT plan never pools with a Flex, Flex+, or Flex+ IoT plan, even on the same account. And because a SIM that is not passing data is not billed, it does not contribute to the pool either.
Overage applies once the pool is consumed. You get notifications as the group approaches its allowance, and you can change a SIM’s plan at any point in the billing cycle.
When are you billed for a Velocity Flex SIM?
You are billed only for SIMs that register to a network during the billing month. Zero registrations means zero charge, with no platform fee and no suspension fee. SIMs sitting in inventory, staged for install, or held as spares never appear on the bill. Charges settle at month end on the card on file.

What coverage do Velocity Flex IoT data plans include?
Coverage is set by the plan group you choose, and the SIM SKU you order determines which groups are available to you.
- Global plans (Flex, Flex+, Flex IoT, Flex+ IoT) cover the countries in our coverage table. Flex and Flex IoT are available in 31 countries: the 27 European Union member states plus the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and Mexico. Flex+ IoT is available in all 169 countries listed, and Flex+ in 129.
- USA plans (Flex USA, Flex USA IoT) cover the United States only, with access to all three major US carriers.
- North America plans (Flex NA, Flex NA IoT) cover the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

How to Order a Velocity IoT SIM?
Four SKUs are stocked on Digi-Key: two form factors, each in a Global and a North America variant. Custom and contracted orders go directly through our team. There is no minimum order quantity on Digi-Key, so a single SIM is a valid order. The coverage variant is the decision to get right before you order, because it determines which plans the SIM can run. Global (-GL) SIMs run the global Flex plans. North America (-NA) SIMs run the Flex USA and Flex NA plans.
The form factor is a hardware decision. The triple-cut plastic SIM is removable and supports the 2FF, 3FF, and 4FF cutouts from a single card, which suits consumer-grade designs. The MFF2 eSIM (embedded SIM) is soldered to the board, which suits industrial and ruggedized deployments where a removable card is a liability under vibration, temperature swings, or tamper risk.
Both SKUs run our multi-IMSI applet on a standard UICC SIM. Each SIM stores multiple IMSI profiles, giving access to multiple carriers from a single SIM with autonomous network switching. Profiles and SIM settings update over the air, so connectivity can be adjusted after devices are in the field. Both support 2G through 5G Non-Standalone, including LTE-M and NB-IoT.
These SIMs are multi-IMSI on UICC and do not support eUICC. The MFF2 is an embedded form factor, not an eUICC. If you need eUICC, including SGP.32 (eSIM IoT), contact our sales team.
How do you set up a Velocity Flex account?
Setup is self-serve from end to end, and no sales call is required at any point.
- Create an account at velocityiot.net. Enter your account and billing details. A $1 authorization is placed on your card and then drops off. You are billed only if your SIMs register to a network.
- Add your SIM and assign a plan. Enter the ICCID printed on the SIM, then select a pool group and rate plan. You need at least one valid ICCID to finish setup.
- Set the APN on your device. With the SIM added and the APN set, the device can connect.
- Manage from the dashboard. Activate SIMs, monitor usage, change plans, and send SMS across your fleet.

What support comes with Velocity Flex?
Support is the same whether you have 1 SIM or 10,000. Self-service pricing does not put you in a lower support tier. Our team helps with what actually comes up in a deployment: getting onboarded to the platform, checking whether a device or module is compatible, working through testing before units ship, troubleshooting a device that will not connect, and optimizing connectivity as you scale or move into new regions. You do not need a contract or a minimum fleet size to ask.

What if you need a custom connectivity strategy?
Our team can work through which SIM technology fits the device, which networks to target in your markets, coverage planning for the regions you are entering, and whether your module supports the technologies the plan relies on. These are easier to settle before a board design is finalized than after units are in the field.
Other deployments need something self-service does not cover. Contract-based options include:
- Custom rate plans and custom IMSI profiles built around your usage pattern and target markets
- Private APN and VPN for deployments with network isolation or security requirements.
- eUICC, including SGP.32 (eSIM IoT), for added flexibility
- Volume ordering and custom SIM profiles beyond the Digi-Key catalog
- Additional platform capabilities and enterprise controls
